The paper studies the cognitive foundations of translation, which is considered as a dynamic, professionally oriented and cognitive process integrated into the stream of natural («live») communication. The result of this activity is a secondary text that reflects the unique character of the cognitive processes behind solving the translation problem, the choice of language means of their explication at individual level, as well as the objective universal nature of such processes and the language norms of their representation. The effectiveness of the translation process ensures the accumulation of relevant experience, structured in the form of implicit «pegs», or cognitive sense-formation patterns for operating with knowledge about an object. These patterns constitute the implicit component of the dynamic structure of meaning (due to the psycholinguistic approach). The influence of linguistic and non-linguistic factors, contributing to the emergence of semantic ambiguity, mediates a different degree of manifestation of the translator's individual traits in the dynamics of overcoming translation difficulties. Professionalism in solving problems while translating is backed by accumulated experience and knowledge, which allow to find both a suitable option and efficient means of self-education.
