Scientific discourse is shaped by a nationally specific cognitive style. However, due to the intense influence of the English language on all important areas of communication, including the scientific one, in the German-language scientific discourse there is a tendency for the texts to be addressee-centered against the background of the traditional addresseecenteredness. This indicates some shifts in the German cognitive style towards the Saxon cognitive style (typology according to J. Galtung).
