The purpose of this study is to reveal the possibilities, peculiarities and effectiveness of using a directed associative experiment in studying the value components of the linguistic picture of the world of the elderly person. The object of the study is a fragment of the language picture of the world of an elderly person, identified and modeled on the material of the reactions obtained in a directed associative experiment. The main research methods are directed associative experiment using the technique of linguistic sign supplementation and modeling. 65 people aged between 55 and 75 produced one of the groups of participants. Six sentences with missed parts were offered to them in order to fill the gaps. The respondents’ answers were considered in the aspect of the representation of images of consciousness by some language means, the choice of which is determined by the value component of the elderly’s language world picture. This way of investigation predetermined the representation of a fragment of the language picture of the world associated with the situation tо say what with whom about what, as a model of the talk semantic field, including nuclear and peripheral components. The application of a directed associative experiment using the technique of supplementing a linguistic sign made it possible to determine the realities that surround the subjects in their daily life and to reveal the value components of the fragment of the elderly’s language world picture united by the situation of verbal communication. The analysis of the results of the pilot experiment showed the possibility and effectiveness of using a directed associative experiment to identify the motives, needs, feelings of the elderly under test, the value components of their linguistic picture of the world.
