Popular emotives in «Echo of Moscow» radio discourse

Abstract

The paper features an overview of the main achievements of emotion linguistics and its new branch of emotive linguistic ecology. The characteristics and parameters as well as functions, goals, objectives and formats of «Echo of Moscow» which is doubtlessly the most unconventional of all radio stations in the country are considered. And most importantly, the paper looks into its freedom of thought expression, presentation of domestic and international political events. The content and the volume of the all radio programs are analyzed (quantity-wise and quality-wise). The sources of the popular emotives, their functional ideas and actualizations are viewed. A three part classification of popular emotives-echoisms: vulgarisms, createms, invented createms, and new-born proverbs / sayings / phraseologisms from institutional communication is presented. The paper emphasizes the importance of «Echo of Moscow» in the formation of collective identification and Russian civil society.
