Abstract

The paper presents the findings of a comprehensive experimental study of the social stereotypes of old age in the linguistic consciousness of students. Two psycholinguistic experiments were conducted (directed by associative and the experiment based on the method of semantic differential), as well as an in-depth group interview through the focus group method. The purpose of the paper is to outline the features of the social stereotype of old age represented in the linguistic consciousness of the young. An analysis of the experimental data made it possible to draw a conclusion, that in the linguistic consciousness of the respondents there can be identified of two stereotypes of old age that are opposed in terms of their emotional and evaluative component, as well an ambivalent model of perception of the phenomenon under study.
