Cognitive-discursive portrait of an elderly person: The «inside» and «outside» perspective

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to present the findings obtained when working work on a project devoted to the positioning of an elderly person in various types of discourses, which pursued two directions (introspective and experimental). The objects of study include institutional, television, virtual discourses, fragments of the linguistic consciousness of elderly and young informants, including associations and essays by schoolchildren; discourses of the elderly. The findings include the perception of late adulthood and people of this age group in the society depends on the parameters of qualitative characteristics, relationships, assessments, interests; with a particular focus on the age, when transition to the elderly age group («pre-pensioners») is made; older groups continue to be associated with poverty; attitude to old age and its assessment changes from unambiguously negative and ambivalent to positive, which is associated with the import of Western concepts of «the third age»; stereotypes of the past are relevant for children amid the development of new stereotypes of active old age, sports. Self-identification to a certain extent is determined by the social and sociocultural characteristics of the individual.
