Abstract

The analysis of the interaction between the participants to the English-language academic discourse in a Russian university has helped reveal its unique features. They represent the common context and demonstrate the adaptation of its members to differences in their cultures and the culture of the host country. The discourse is nativized by incorporating Russian education terms and etiquette units and employing English-Russian code-mixing. Code-switching is used as part of the informative strategy. All communicative strategies are complemented by tactics to facilitate the communication involving an indirect contact between languages and cultures.
