The study focuses on the comparison of the lexicographic data on the English word head with its corpus-based frequency data. It is demonstrated that different dictionary meanings of the word head are represented with different frequency depending on a particular exemplar of the referent. The conclusion is made that there is no direct correlation between the word meaning as fixed in the language and its realization.
