The purpose of the article is to present the conclusions obtained during a semantic experiment conducted in a group of non-philology students. The object of the study is the semanticization strategies that native speakers use to describe emotional-evaluative vocabulary. The article focuses on the discrepancy between the meaning of the word reflected in the definitions presented by the authors of semantic dictionaries and the interpretation options offered by ordinary native speakers. The author concludes that the interpretation of emotional-evaluative vocabulary, which serves to characterize a person, is carried out through a definitional strategy.
