The paper focuses on the functions of mediatexts, outlines a typology of such texts and describes genre-related narrative specifics of news articles and analytical reports in terms of verbal linguistic manipulation featured in them. The research determines the most commonly used linguistic manipulation tools in the texts of each genre, as well as their subtypes, describes their potential and functions and compares their genre-related specifics with reference to a selection of mediatexts. The authors rely on the analysis made to describe the means of composing or modifying genrespecific narrative and to define manipulative focus of the mediatexts.
