The article discusses the interpretation of the Theory of Conceptual Metaphor for the analysis of the discourse of modern media sources. Using an examples related to the understanding of conceptual metaphors with the word «life», the author compares the specifics of the linguistic picture of the world of three different cultures: Russian, English, and Azerbaijani. The author presents an analysis of lexical units verbalizing this concept. The work reveals its etymological features. As a result of the study, the sphere of representations, meanings, images, with which this mental category is associated, is determined.
