The article offers an analysis of the reflection of older people on themselves, their age, social status, based on the psycholinguistic study of relevant fragments of linguistic consciousness related to the interpretation of the elderly by the elderly themselves, oral discourse obtained as a result of recorded conversations and spontaneous speech of people of this age. Recordings of spontaneous speech showed, within the framework of the self-presentation of informants from 63 to 75 years, a contradiction between poor physical condition and the desire for self-realization; implicit expression of the identity of a person who knows life and is able to teach the young; in the group from 75 to 94 years old – loss of health, reduced quality of life, dependence on relatives; domination in both groups of direct communication, telephone communication, watching TV programs, perception of media people as authoritative interlocutors. The experimental part of the study showed partial overlap with the results of oral conversations. Logical rational experience of the stimulus prevails, there are the lack of variability reactions, the limited set of cognitive areas and actual meanings. They are connected with the interpretation of the essence of a person (male, female) of a given age, social status, ambivalent emotional and physical condition, activity, and partly – vital interests. The areas of political problems, the values of familiars, communication in free association were not actualized.
