The article presents the results of analysis of the preparation and conduct of a psycholinguistic experiment using various techniques in studying the linguistic picture of the world of an elderly person. The purpose of this stage of the study is to determine the conditionality of the choice of methods and techniques for using the psycholinguistic experiment by the age characteristics of the recipients. Analysis of four experimental methods (free associative experiment, directed associative experiment, method of supplementing a linguistic sign, and «semantic differential») allowed us to conclude that experimental tasks must be adapted to the age, social, and psychological characteristics of the recipients. Particular attention and adjustment is required by stimulus lists, scales (for the «semantic differential»), and task formulations for a directed associative experiment. When creating an experimental sample, it is necessary to take into account not only the age, gender of the recipient, currently working or not, but also such factors as the level of education and profession / occupation before retirement.
