The paper compares the content of the basic value of “Heimat / Homeland" in German and Austrian linguistic cultures. Based on the data obtained in a free association experiment conducted with native speakers representing German and Austrian linguistic cultures in 2023, it was noted that “Heimat / Homeland” is the basic value in both linguistic cultures. It is associated with home, a sense of security and stability. It is important that Austrian respondents identify themselves with Austria as one country, while German respondents identify rhemselves only with their hometown.
