Abstract

The paper looks into the specifics of space reflection in the minds of Russian native speakers through the use of the associativeon experiment and the method of subjec-tive definitions, and describes diachronic changes in the content of the associative field of “space” as a stimulus. Overall, Russian native speakers perceive space pri-marily as a large unfilled vacated area located outdoors and not limited in size, and only then as a specific place in which something can be located and which can be explored. At the same time, present-day Russian speakers find internal, personal space is important, which is a zone of their physical and psychological comfort of a person. When describing space, subjects focus both on its functionality and its aes-thetic properties, and also mention those who inhabit it.
