The paper focuses on the identification and analysis of mediating associates, the number of mediators (M) and mediated strength (MSG). It is based on the material of the associative fields bogatyj and rich, presented in the Russian Associative Thesaurus and in the University of South Florida Free Association Norms. The most frequent pair bogatyj – bednyj has 4 mediators and the pair rich – poor has 1 mediator. The nature of these mediators is fundamentally different. The speech action rich – poor is mediated by the word wealth. On the contrary, the lack of wealth is relevant for the words bogatyj and bednyj. The revealed mediated strength of the analyzed speech action in American association norms is greater than in the Russian Associative Thesaurus (0.0048 vs 0.0032), which indicates a higher degree of operationality of the speech action rich – poor.
