This work presents the analysis of «fake news» phenomenon that represents a new threat to media security in the digital communication environment. The author explores the concept of «fake» and the functional features of intentionally unreliable messages («fake news»), disseminated under the guise of the news about real facts or events, highlighting the linguistic markers of «faking» as a speech action aimed at deliberately misinforming the audience. As a result of the study, it is concluded that it is not enough to study only news headlines, it is necessary to identify all the elements that make up the diagnostic complex of «fake news», represented at various language levels.
