The paper focuses on the metaphorization of the “WORD” concept within the framework of cognitive linguistics. The research subject is the “WORD” concept (source), the research object includes the cognitive areas (targets) involved in the process of concept metaphorization. The paper uses the method of linguacognitive analysis applied to the associative-verbal network of the concept. The study results in a set of conceptual metaphors: WORDS ARE WEAPONS, WORDS ARE OBJECTS, WORDS ARE CREATURES, WORDS ARE VALUES.
