The article deals with the following aspects of mass communication: communication models of the sender, the message and the audience and the diverse forms and genres of mass communication in Internet. It also contrasts the first media age of traditional journalism with the second media age of interactivity. The political discourse is examined in term of medium theory and network forms. The concept post-truth created and inspired by mass media manipulates public opinion, introduces disinformation and devaluation of facts. The rise of fake news emphasizes the global concern over the misinformation problem in the Internet age. The article discusses the fake news phenomenon: belief in fake news and the mechanisms by which it spreads.
