Abstract

The paper focuses on the content of moral and ethical values in the consciousness of young members of the Russian society. The system of these values is considered a form of spiritual culture, the key factor that inherently determines self-identification of a person, and manifests itsefs in the choice of behavior patterns in a specific situation. The experiment aimed at identifying the actual content of these values in native speakers’ consciousness has shown that it: 1) does not fully repricate the moral values declared at the state level; 2) closely linked to the values of the American society, or broader, Anglo-Saxon civilization; 3) corresponds to the outlook aimed at personal achievements and harmonizing relations with the outside world without involvement in other people’s affairs. The conclusion is drawn that the adoption of moral and ethical values which are typical for another culture may result in a change in the cultural self-identification of people living in Russia and, consequentely, reformatting the foundations of the Russian civilization.
