Abstract

The paper explores the cognitive image of a conflict situation in the minds of ado-lescents through the perception of model conflict situations between an adolescent and a parent by the subjects of the study. The research framework is based on the premise that the cognitive image associates an abstract concept with the material world, fills it with content and fixates it in the universal subject code of thinking. Conflicts with parents are a natural component of growing up, separation and per-sonality development, in this regard, the cognitive image of a conflict situation will serve as a preset in any similar situation. The research procedure relies on P. Verges method. The association experiment involved 20 female and 20 male adolescents and relied on complex audiovisual stimuli. The authors argue that “biological sex” determines the cognitive image of a conflict situation: female adolescents tend to show empathy towards the participants, relate to their emotions; in the worldview of male adolescents, conflict is a natural and rational way to achieve their goals. The structure of the cognitive image of a conflict situation can be characterized as most indicative and complete in cases when the biological sex of the subject coincides with the sex of the adolescent featured in the stimulus material.
